The situation
A telecom operator collected only 65% of dues within 30 days of billing. Disconnection after a threshold was not strict, and timelines differed by product. IT could not disconnect large volumes of accounts. Customers were not reminded enough, and many expected reconnection on partial payment.
What we did
- Standardised disconnection timelines across all products and segments.
- Explained the disconnection process to customers across their lifecycle.
- Introduced six new ways to remind customers, more often.
- Tied up with a credit bureau, so unpaid dues affect credit ratings.
The result
- Collection within 30 days rose gradually from 65% to 85%.
- Collections rose by $50 million a month.
- Write-offs fell 80%.
